hello, if the noise is internal it is most likely the shift synchronizer-- teeth are worn causing gear mesh, tim
Customer: replied 7 years ago.

I feel a vibration in the shifter when it happens and the sound (almost like a short grunt) appears to be enternal and external. What elsecould it be other than the synchronizer?

Expert:  TIM replied 7 years ago.
most common failure is a worn synchro-- it is possible -- bearing -- but a bearing would cause issues all of the time
