2002 mercedes: It drives..slip gears between 3rd and 4th..revs..engage

Resolved Question:

I have a 2002 mercedes ML270CDI with 116K miles on clock. It drives generally well, but it seems to slip gears between 3rd and 4th in particular. The engine suddenly revs, then it will engage with the gear and is okay. This seems to be getting slowly worse. Any ideas?

Changing fluid and filter seems to be your first step. Then there is lucas trans additive you can try. But sounds like your slipping. Look for how much metal is on your magnet. when you get your tranny pan off. (If you plan on doing work yourself). Clutch pads in tranny worn or sticking during engagement. ThanksDan
