My 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora (which I love) has about 180,000 miles and the headlights will not turn off, and the ignition warning "dinger" only goes off when the doors are closed. I have removed the headlight switch and the problem is still there. I have had to disconnect the ground battery cable. Is there some troubleshooting tips I could have to identify if the problem is the ignition switch or the ignition control module (or possibly some other problem? Any help would greatley be appreciated.

I only know as much about your problem as you have told me in your post, so my answer will be based on what you have posted. Feel free to add any additional info you feel is needed. I had this exact same thing happen on an 01 Aurora, and it turned out to be the BCM (body control module) it was located in the center of the firewall. The BCM controls various things in the vehicle that the main computer does not control. This is a complex system, and you would need a good schematic to diagnose this problem. You might consider getting a good repair manual for your vehicle. This will allow you to diagnose problems, and it will show you the wiring, and other necessary details that you need for repairs. A manual takes the guess work out of repairs, and saves you time and money. If you have any more questions I am here to help. Is this located to the right side of the box that has a V-8 lable, with a cable running to the throttle?

No the BCM will only have wires going to it. I tried to look it up on my parts locator to be sure of the location, and it doesn't come up. On the 2001 it was right in the center of the firewall. On the earlier model it was inside the vehicle under the passenger side kick panel. So if you don't see it in the center of the firewall, check behind the passenger side kick panel. I would suggest getting a schematic, or a repair manual and you could check the wires to see if the BCM was powering up the headlights when it should not. A manual takes lots of the guess work out of problems like these. If you have any more questions I am here to help.
