We have a 2000 Kia Sephia was in an accident. We left it in the yard for a year. When we went to have it fixed, the transmission was also frozen up. We have been told that the transmission may need to have an electrical charge to shift. We have also been told that the metal alloys in the transmission corrode when left unused. Do you have an opinion?
Already Tried: Our mechanic tried a new battery in the car, but we're wondering if the electricity is still not getting to the right place.
Hello wildande, does the engine run? What do you mean by the fact the the transmission is frozen?
No, the engine was the original repair, but after we left it setting, the shifter will not move.
Okay. If the shifter will not move then you need to check the brake switch. If the brake switch is not functioning then it will not unlock the shifter. You can check this just by checking to see if the brake lights are working. If they are then you may need to take the console apart to see if the lock solenoid is functioning. Also, if there is not enough battery voltage this will not work.

Our mechanic tried a new battery, so you think it is probably the brake switch or the lock solenoid?
Yes. If the shifter is just not moving then this is the problem.
