My daughter has a 2006 Mazda 3 and at one point in time ran the battery almost dead. It wasn't completely dead but they had to let it sit for a while before it would start. Ever since then the security system has been goofed up. When you take the key out and open the door the alarm sounds. It is like the car still thinks the key is in the ignition. The door lock pod doesn't work and the only way to lock the door is with the key. What is really strange is that if you put the key in the ignition and pull it out for a while it will work again, but only until you use it again. I noticed once that I only had to touch the key to the ignition opening to make the alarm go off. I hope I have explained this well enough.

hi, I have seen several of these with similar problems, the fix was, to unplug the ecm and plug it back in, as there is some kind of glitch going on with these ecm's connection, I would just make sure, to double check the battery and alternator to make sure the correct voltage is swimming through the system, because a weak system will definitely jam up the alarm system, I am surprised the dealer is not aware of this problem, If I am not mistaken there is a technical service bulletin that explains the glitch, also there was a procedure listed as to how to correctly undo the battery, so that it doesnt ruin the ecm. hope this helps, this vehicle should still be under warranty, correct? if so bring it right to the dealer, and explain what is going on, and tell them to check the technical service bulletins
thanx
joe
What is the ecm and how do I unplug it?
the ecm is the engine control module, and there is a harnass that plugs into it, the problem is, the dealer is the only place that has the necessary computer to reflash the system if need be, if you do it and it becomes necessary to reflash or reinstall any software, your gonna have a big problem on your hands, I do not recommend that. you do not have a warranty?
No the warranty is up it has 60,000 miles on it. It was used when we bought it. Thank you for your answer. we are taking it ot the dealer Monday but they want an arm and a leg to look at it. I will accept your answer. DO you have any other options we might look at?
no just the charging system will need to be checked, including the battery, I would try a local garage, first, they may have the necessary equipment, and will be noticebly cheaper to look into it. if not then we have no other choice but to go to the dealer
