My transmission F4A51 on a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse (V-6 3.0 Litters) with 101,376 miles on is failing again. After getting my car back from the transmission place 3 months later I'm getting the same problem. I'm driving down the road and without warning my car looses power and once I pull over to the side of the road my car will not pull or go into any gears. White Smoke was coming from my car and a trail of reddish or brown liquid is on the ground. It seem my Torque Converter has been destroyed again. The transmission place has checked and put my transmission back in place after working on it and said they notice some slippage stil on the test drivel. SO they will have to take it back apart. I know a new transmission will run about $3,000. Last time the Fuel Pump, Filter, Dacco CT20 Convter was all that was replaced at the Transmission Shop. Could the problem be a broken or faulty "WAVE SPRING" that is going through the transmission and destroying the torque converter?
Optional Information: Year: 2001Make: MitsubishiModel: EclipseEngine: v-6 3.0L Already Tried: I have a automatic transmission. I took my car to the transmission shop few months ago they replaced the fuel pump, Filter and put in a Dacco CT20 Torque Converter. I took my car back to the same Transmission shop, and they seem to be struggling with it. Without warning my transmission stops pulling and the check engine lights up in my dashboard. I'm stuck on the side of the road with with a car that won't move forward or backwards.
Is the transmission shop that you are going to Reputable? this is not an easy trans to get right?
I do not know the history of the Repair Shop. The shop is called COOK's Transmission, INC Columbia, Kentucky Work has 30 day Warranty. Is it better to rebuild or buy a new one. I want to keep the car restore it to top shape.
Sorry, I am not from that area & do not know that shop. I do know that the warranty that you have stated is VERY low for most good trans shops. I have never had a problem with a quality rebuild. that being said I am not sure that is what you are getting. I would probably go somewhere else 4 a rebuild or request a new one. There are so many variables in a rebuild that determine the quality of it. I would ask around or call BBB to see who is doing good work in your area.

Relist: I prefer a second opinion. My car been gone over a month and I want to keep my car. Since the torque converter went out twice and transmission fluid pored out all at once. WAVE SPRING the problem? I have a manual of the transmission I found online.
I would say it is probably not a wave springunless they didn't put it back in the trans. You probably have one of two problems. Excessive play in the clutch packs when trans was reassembled or when the trans was rebuilt they missed a internal problem with the it. The reason you are getting all of the problems is do to excessive play in trans that is causing slippage and heat.
