Hi Im losing approximately 1/4 in of anti freeze in 2000

Customer Question

Hi: I`m losing approximately 1/4 in of anti freeze in 2000 miles. What could be the possible causes? How many hours are required to fix it? Is there now, newer and better, gaskets to replace the intake manifold gasket with. If thats what it is. There is 57000 miles on the car, oil does not foam or engine miss. What damage could happen if not fixed right away? Thanks Dave email XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

Some of the manufactures have updated the gasket set if it is the intake leaking. What will happen is the intake will leak coolant and the coolant ends up in the intake valley at the top of the engine. It will evaporate from the heat of the engine. You can look with a flashlight at the upper part of the engine around the intake for traces of coolant. I would for the time being just keep the coolant level checked to prevent overheating. Thanks
