I have a 2004 kia spectra and on the drivers back tire cannot get the caliper to screw in so I can put the new brakes on. The passenger side screwed in without any problems. What can I do to get it to screw in.
Hello, What are you using to screw in the caliper?
I am using a pair of pliers to do this. The other passenger side when in with no problem using hte same method.
Ok, you "should" be able to use pliers, but often once the cars get older the calipers start sticking, you'll likely be able to get it to turn in using a caliper tool which fits into the piston and presses it in and turns it at the same time. Usually parts stores like autozone have them available in their loaner tool programs. If you borrow or buy the tool and still can't get it to turn in you're going to need to replace the caliper. I've included a link below to the tool so you know what you're looking for.http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-25000-Rear-Brake-Caliper/dp/B0002SQUJUIf you have any other questions please let me know. Okay I will try that and get back to you if it works or not.
Oh, another thing that a lot of people forget on these cars, depending on the brake pads you get there will be an alignment tab which fits into the notch in the piston, if the pad has this tab you'll need to make the notch in the piston lines up with the tab.
Thanks for the help the tool was the fix. Next time I willl just rent the tool.
