i have a 2000 jeep Cherokee v8 that has just developed a slight knock after the radiator got a crack and had to be replaced what is the possible cause and potential problems with this knocking?
DId the vehicle over heat?
Does the noise sound like it is coming from the top or bottom of the engine?
it did not overheat but got hot and cut of while driving then i restarted and the knocking started , then the radaitor was replaced and knocking persists, i would say the bottom of the engine, but im not sure i need to check with the hood open.
Probably a dumb question but is the oil level fine? Not too high or low?
i just changed the oil last week it should be right on but ill go check it now.
Does the knock speed up and slow down with the rpm of the engine?
yes it and gets slightly quieter as rpms increase at 40 mph and above there is no abnormal sounds i can detect.
You are describing a rod bearing knocking. You would need to remove the oil pan for an inspection to know for sure, but from you description it will need bearings.
