What caused the transfer case to crack on my 2002 Santa Fe? I had all required maintenance including oil changes at the dealership I bought it from. There are only 62052 kms on my Santa Fe. No collisions and obviously no long road trips. The service department is just shrugging it off as a fluke...is it??

HelloCustomerI'll be glad to help you! Have you seen the crack? Where is it located?
No I didn't see it and wasn't told exactly where the crack is. It has been 2 weeks since I found out . The original estimate was $5000 with new parts. I asked for a salvaged part which brings down the cost to $2700. The part they got was supposed to be put in today but the bolt holes aren't in the right place for my specific model so I am in a rental til they find the correct transfer case. I really want to know if I should push for a cheaper repair because the part they manufactured and intalled should not have failed in the first place.
If you haven't seen it and they won't tell you where it is then its hard to say how it happened. The bad part is that the vehicle is probably out of warranty at this point. Parts, for good or bad can go bad at any moment. If they claim that its a mystery and they found it, all you can do is fix it. I would ask to see where it is if I were you. Its odd for those to crack. Something usually has to hit it for that to happen.
