I have a 1989 Mazda 626 2 litre carberator model. When cold the auto choke appears to be holding the revs at about 1500 but the car will not pull away with out stalling. It has no power under load until the revs are over 2500. At any stop, until the motor is hot, the car will definately stall when the clutch is released, unless I tickle the accelerator prior to releasing it.When the car is warm it appears to be O.K. I have changed the fuel filter a while ago, could it be the air cleaner? The vehicle has 358,000 km's and is not an oil burner. I have changed the spark plugs and the high tension leads plus the coil lead to the distributor.Any help would be appreciated. Brian. New Zealand

HiCustomer Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer. I would check for a vacuum leak with carburetor spray. Spray around the intake manifold or any vacuum hose and listen for any RPM changes. If you notice a change in RPM then that's where a leak is.Let me know...

I have been feeding HHO from electrolisis through the vacuum system. I disconnected the system and there is a definite improvement. It had been getting progressively worse so must have been sucking excess air. Thank you for your help.
I'm glad it helped... thanks a lot.
Until next time. Thanks Brian
