2003 Nissan Pathfinder: The service engine light..reliable..lifters

Resolved Question:

I have a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. The service engine light has been on for a while. My very reliable mechanic cannot figure out the problem, except that the lifters are sludged up.
He suggested to change the oil every 1,500 miles. That has worked except that the problem comes and goes. It shifts very irregular. What suggestions do you have?

If the check engine light is on , you need to scan the computer, Autozone scan for free or ask you mechanic.
