97 buick skylark: easiest way to empty the fuel tank

Customer Question

what is the easiest way to empty the fuel tank on a 97 buick skylark? i could not get hose all the way through the fill neck and completely into tank. hose stopped just under 5 feet into neck. i tried to pull fuel supply line to injector rail, attaching hose to supply line and turning on key to run fuel pump. prefer not dropping tank.

You really do not have many options. If you can remove the fuel filler neck by unclamping it at the fuel tank you can bypass the check ball that stopped you from going through the fuel filler neck. Other other options that you would have would be the way you are at the fuel pressure line. If you have access to a transfer pump, you can attach it at the return pipe and pump it out from there. This would drain the tank quite a ways, but not all of the way. Feel free to contact me with any questions or problems! Good luck!

i will try to unclamp the filler neck, but is there no way to run the in tank fuel pump, with a hose connected to the pressure line?

You could bypass the fuel pump relay. Jumping terminal 5 to 3 should make the pump run all the time.
