As far as who does it a dealer will have the highest labor rate and most likely will want to either overhaul your current unit or replace it with a new one, this could get into the several thousand dollar range. An independant shop will be easier on labor hour rate charge and will most likely install a used unit or send the one you have out for rebuild. You can usually find a used transmision for this car for around $500. The suggested labor time for replacing a transmission on this car is 7.2 hours. To rebuiild one at an hourly shop is 16.8 hours plus parts. If you intend to have your curretn unit rebuilt then your most cost effective option may be a transmission shop such as allpro transmissions or another well known local transmission shop, typically they charge about half of what a dealer does, have a 2 day turn around time and have very high quality of work.
