1991 buick park avenue: noise hood -- sort..whirring..quits

i have a 1991 buick park avenue. when i turn the engine off, there continues to be a noise coming from under my hood -- sort of a whirring for lack of a better description. after several minutes, it quits. do you have any idea what this is? thanks.

no, i haven't checked the coolant fan. where is it and how do i check it? thanks.

The eletric coolant fan under the hood on the of the radiator,the fan may be running after the engine is off just to cool the engine down, The fan should turn off after 2 or 3 minutes. this is normal because the engine is hot and the computer turn on the fan to cool the engine.
