1998 pontiac: 3.8 l,Gran Prix,92K miles..loud..quits..vacuum

Resolved Question:

I have a 1998 Pontic, 3.8 l,Gran Prix,92K miles. It has a loud engine noise, when I remove the oil cap the noise quits. It also has a very strong vacuum at the oil cap. This car does not have a pcv.

Hello ronstogdill, this is usually due to a leaking intake manifold gasket. These gaskets can leak and allow the intake to pull a vacuum on the crank case. Let me know if you need more help.

Could the oil separator valve cause this problem?
Expert:  FixItMan replied 8 years ago.
No, it would not do this. This is generally always an intake problem.
