CHRIS HELP !!!!! I have a 94 mazda b4000 4x4 I replaced my bat, starter & my alt 3 times. the wires coming from my starter solenoid to them are melted,(common sense tells me this is the prob) the local mech shop says its not my starter solenoid, but they dont know what it is. the wire connector to my starter is now deformed too. also the parts stores around here dont carry the wierd shaped wire attached to it (where the 2 red wires come into the black rubber thing) I had already replaced that once too but i got it at a junk yard. I do have the repair manual but its not helping for this issue. since i removed the starter soleniod to take it the parts store over a month ago to match up(cause when i called about it they said they didnt have it in stock it would have to be special ordered, even after telling them its the same as the ford ranger..that they do have in stock...but they said it would not work)I'll need a wiring diagram so i dont put it on backwards. please help me fix my truck. thanx, CHRISSY ....HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME AGAIN LIKE YOU DID BEFORE WITH MY EXPLORER HORN PROBLEM ! LOL IS THERE A DIAGRAM THAT SHOWS ME THE CORRECT WAY TO INSTALL NEW STARTER SOLENOID RELAY ? THATS MY LAST THING TO REPLACE SINCE EVERYTHING ELSE HAS BEEN DONE Optional Information: 1994 Mazda b4000 6cyl
1994 Ford B4000 6CYL Already Tried: CAN YOU HELP ME AGAIN ! YOU WERE A GREAT HELP LAST TIME
Chrissy, Hi this is Al, Chris is not availiable presently, but I will try to help you. You did mention if the truck was manual or auto transmission, so I am including diagrams for both. Make sure your large ground wire is attatched at the starter. I hope the diagrams help, if not let me know, Al

(its a stick) can you tell what you think is wrong with it? the large ground is mounted to the starter. the 1st time i had this prob both wires coming from the strater relay solenoid were melted entirely, i cant remember if i replaced the relay or not, but i did have to replace everything else. that happened over 2 yrs ago, then i lent it to someone and it happened again in april 2007 it been sitting ever since. i dont get to drive it much, so it didnt have alot of drive time on it in the year after fixing it the 1st time. now the small wire going to the starter is the 1 with the bad connecter & the wire going to it is melted. 1 of the wires going to the alt was also melted so bad we couldnt get it off. thanks to life time warranties i already replaced both of them again. the new battery i bought 2 years ago also went bad during all of this.... i just bought a new relay & need to go get a new battery & a new wire from the relay but no one carries them here unless they have a "special" name that i'm not calling it by, (i thought a descrition of what & where would help, but no) the wires all join together into this black rubber piece & that mounts to the relay. i will try to use the diagram tomorrow to see if i can figure out which way to put it back on. before i blow it all up again... what do you think is causing this? i bought the truck back july 98 with only 12,000 miles on it, its almost 100,000 so i know the history on it, just cant figure this out.
Chrissy, Because of the design of that cable I would suggest getting a replacement from the dealer. I will get the part number and reply tommorow, Al
THAT WOULD BE GREAT ! I ASSUME IT WOULD HAVE TO BE A SPECIAL ORDER ? WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE CAUSING THIS REACCURING PROBLEM ? OR IS IT A PROBLEM WITH THIS YR MAKE AND MODEL THAT YOU MAY KNOW OF ...I JUST HOPE THIS STARTED SOLENOID RELAY IS THE SOLUTION . TTYS
Chrissy, Make sure the cables have not rubbed on the side of the engine or motor mount causing them to short. The cable you need can be purchased at your local Ford dealer. The Ford part# XXXXX XXXXX the Motorcraft# XXXXX XXXXX It is $83.15. I hope this helps, Al
We looked at it all yesterday, none of the wires are rubbin, touchin or raw anywhere, but they are all melted and the the connector that goes to the starter is melted so bad it wont stay on anymore. Is there anything else it could possibly be if its not the relay? remember I have already replaced all of this before and it happened again less the 3000 miles later.
I need to know what wires go where ? I dont wanna mess this up lol ths is the first time I am doin this so want to get it right the first time !! The wire that goes onto starter (just that lil black peice that goes onto the starter ) where can i get a replacement one and for how much ? It got a little melted from something making it hot . Sorry it took so long to get back to you I was out of state and could not find my info to sign on here til now !! Thanks
Chrissy, The large terminal of the starter cable on the on the starter terminal (large) that does not have the short braided cable to the starter motor, the small black connector pushes on to the flat blade terminal. The relay end atattches to the relay with the large wire in the connector going the the left terminal looking at the relay with the small terminal on the bottom, Al
i THINK WE ARE TALKING ABOUT 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT PARTS HERE. THE ONE I AM REFERRING TO IS THE ONE LOCATED IN THE ENGINE AREA MOUNTED ON THE RIGHT SIDE PANEL . IT HAS 3 SCREWS 2 BIG AND 1 LITTLE . ONE JUST HAS A PLUG TIRE WIRE THAT ATTACHES TO IT AND THE OTHERS HAVE EYELITS THAT JUST GO RIGHT OVER THE SCREW AND THEY HAVE A NUT PUT ON TO KEEP IT THERE . SOMETIMES IT IS SOLD WITH 3 OR 4 POSTS AND IF ONLY 3 ARE USED YOU DONT USE THE "I" POST . HOPE THAT HELPS CLARIFY WHAT ONE I HAVE . THANKS !
Chrissy, Are you using the factory replacement cable from the the starter relay tothe starter?
The one that is on there is the original one the Explorer came with , I will probably need to replace that as well being that like i said it got melted a little bit im sure to the charge that was going through it . I am now replacing the starter solenoid part # XXXXX the one on the side panel . I do want to change that cable that runs from the solenoid down to the starter that is the one that looks a lil melted . But curious why the question ?
I AM REALLY HAVING A HARD TIME WITH THIS TRUCK . IS THERE A WAY TO SEE A GOOD PIC OF HOW IT SHOULD LOOK ? THE NEW RELAY HAS 4 POST ON IT . AND I KNOW IT SAID NOT TO USE ONE OF THEM . BUT HOW CAN I KNOW WHERE THE WIRES GO ? I TOOK IT OUT LIKE OVER A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AND HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE HELL THEY GO BACK ON WITH OUT SHORTING SOMETHIN ELSE ! I DIDNT THINK TO LABEL THEM . SO NOW I AM STUCK ! SORRY .....BE IN THE MIDDLE OF A MOVE ~
