1999 cadillac deville: repair safe to drive 60 miles

Resolved Question:

1999 Cadillar Deville runs, but shows message that "battery is not charging". It's Labor Day and repair shops are closed. Is it safe to drive 60 miles to Ks. City?

Hello and thank you for choosing Just Answer.

Battery not charging typically means that the alternator is not charging properly. It is hard to say if the alternator is putting out low voltage or no voltage. I would not suggest that you drive the car, this may leave you stranded for labor day and you may encounter a towing fee.
If you decide to make the trip, do not turn off the car unless you arrive to the destination where you can get a jump start again. Also if you have jump wires, take them with you.
