Freelander..1st gear and push the hill descent control switch nothing

I put the car into 1st and prest the yellow button on the gear stick but the light on the dash doesn't light up. I have only just bought the car

Most likely the problem is in the ABS ECU ,,,,,basically the computer for the brake system.

Unfortunatly its going to require a factory level scanner to hook to the computer and monitor the function when tryong to apply the switch,,,,,sorry, i sure do wish i could give you the silver bullet to correct this, but its impossible without that scan tool. Dont worry about the accept if you dont want to,,,i just cant go any further :-(
