Jeep cherokee sport: I put the gear shift in park, it moves

Resolved Question:

I have a jeep cherokee sport, that when I put the gear shift in park, it moves out of that position and I can''t get the key out of the ignition. How do I fix this and what is the cost?

Hi there,

You have a bad shift interlock cable. They are notorious for failing on these Jeeps.

The shift interlock cable is what alows you to remove the key on park, but also wont allow it out of park unless you have the key "on" and brakes are depressed.

Replacing your shift interlock cable should take care of this problem.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!
