Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the coolant.
  3. Remove the air intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Powertrain Management.
  4. Disconnect the radiator hose.

Remove the thermostat housing.

  1. Remove the thermostat.
  2. Clean all sealing surfaces.
Installation Procedure
(picture #3)
  1. Install the thermostat.
  2. Install the thermostat housing using a new gasket.

  1. Install the thermostat housing bolts. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
    • Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)

  1. Connect the radiator hose.
  2. Install the air intake duct.
  3. Refill the coolant.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.
  5. Start the engine.
  6. Check for leaks.

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2. Remove the upper intake sight shield.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management.
  4. Disconnect the shift selector cable.
  5. Remove the throttle cable bracket
  6. Remove the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management.
  7. Remove the EGR pipe at the throttle body spacer.

Disconnect the upper radiator hose from housing.

Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing.

  1. Remove the water pump belt cover.
  2. Remove the water pump belt tensioner.
  3. Remove the water pump belt.
  4. Remove the throttle body spacer. Refer to Throttle Body Spacer Replacement in Powertrain Management.
  5. Remove the EGR. Refer to EGR Valve Replacement in Powertrain Management.
  6. Disconnect the EGR pipe from the water crossover.
  7. Disconnect the park neutral switch.

  1. Remove the water crossover from the engine.
Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

  1. Install the water crossover on the engine.
    • Tighten the water crossover bolts to 25 Nm (118 ft. lbs.) .

  1. Install the water pump cover.
    • Tighten the water pump cover to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) .
  1. Connect the park neutral switch.
  2. Connect the EGR pipe to the water crossover.
  3. Install the EGR.
  4. Install the throttle body spacer.

  1. Install the water pump belt.
  2. Install the water pump belt tensioner.
  3. Install the water pump belt cover.
Connect the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing.

  1. Connect the upper radiator hose to the housing.
  2. Install the EGR pipe to the throttle body spacer.

  1. Install the throttle body.
  2. Install the throttle cable bracket.
  3. Connect the shift selector cable.
  4. Install the air cleaning assembly.
  5. Install the upper filler panel.
  6. Install the upper intake manifold sight shield.
  7. Refill the engine cooling system.
