2001 Hyundai Elantra: check engine light..I have the obd 2 reader

Customer Question

My 2001 Hyundai Elantra check engine light was on. I have the obd 2 reader and it says code po440 which says it is the Evaporative emission control system malfunction. What is this and what can I do to fix or check it? Thanks Brian

the most common cause for this code is a loose or defective gas cap. it also is one of the least expensive repairs so your best bet is to buy a new cap, make sure that it is on tight, clear the codes with your code reader and see if it resets the same code. Dave
