Customer Question

My car is not idling right. The rpm keep jumping up and down. When stop the car is idling over 1 then back below 1 instantly. When I step on the gas, the car starts to jerk and it does not shift into the next gear right away, the rpm goes up passed 5 then it shifts. What is wrong?

Did this problem just start? Or has it been acting up slowly?

It sounds like there is a vacuum leak causing both the idle flucuating and the late shifting. You will need to look around in the engine area for any small hoses that may have come disconnected. If you can't find any, then you will probably be better off to take it into the shop for an acurate diagnoses. I don't think it is anything major, just might be a little tough to find.
