96 chrysler sebring: coolant leak..timing belt covers..tensioner..seal

Customer Question

On a 96 chrysler sebring with a 2.5 liter 24 valve engine, I was in the process of changing the water pump for a coolant leak, when i took off the timing belt covers and was about to take the tensioner bolts off, the bottom bolt let out a stream of coolant. Looking at the water pump there was no evidence of any leaking and none of the manuals i saw referred to this bolt as a bolt going thru a coolant jacket and needing to seal the treads or anything. my question is; is this normal or is there some block damage that is hidden? p.s. i didn't see any evidence of coolant in the oil. thanks.

I would continue to change the pump and seal all the bolts.Adding sealer where not needed will not hurt anything.The bolt must go into a water jacket whether described as such or not.After as far as you are already I would replace the belt along with the pump.I really doubt you have block damage.If this answer satisfies your question please click on my accept button.
