If the security light is on thats why the car won't crank youi most likley have a bad lock cylinder it is not recegnizing the resistor chip in your key. Take the key with you to the dealer so they can get you the right lock cylinder.

There are two white wires that come off the lock cylinder that break frequently that cause the problem you are having.

The security system can be bypassed for a couple dollars. If you don't feel you need the security feature we can give instructions on bypassing. If you wish to do this, all I ask is that you first pay engineboy for his accurate diagnosis.

Measure the resistance of the pellet in your ignition key with a digital ohm meter. Then go to an electronics store like radio shack and buy a matching resistor from them make sure you ohm it also.Go under the column and  find the 2 little white wires they are quite small compared to the other wires under the dash.Solder the resistor between the 2 white wires and you should be good to go.Tape the connection up real well with electrical tape.

I measured the resistance with a digital ohm meter,Now where do I find a 1462 ohm resistor?

Reply to enginboy's Post: I replaced the ignition switch but not with a VATS switch. Just a plain switch. It still will not work.Do I still need to bypass the VATS system?

You either need a vats lock cylinder(dealer only)or you need to solder in the resistor like I said.Radio Shack or a similar electronics supply store should have a resistior.Something close to your measurement should work.
