I would leve rebuilding a rack to someone who does it everyday there can be alot of factors that you don't notic when you don't rebuild something all the time. You may need a part that does not come in the kit.
With all said and done it's easer faster and usauly cheaper to install a reman then to do it your self.
The labor guides says it take 1.5 hours Xs that by the labor rate plus parts and thats what the shop charges (remember the shop charges list price for parts witch may be as much as double what you would pay for it from a good parts house.
The toughest part of this job would be disconecting the lines and the tie rod ends. With some mechanical inclination this is a medium degree of dificulty.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
See Figures 1 and 2
This procedure applies to 2WD Dakota models only.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the tie rod ends from the steering knuckle.
Disconnect and plug the power steering fluid lines.
Remove the coupling pin.

Remove the bolts attaching the rack to the crossmember.
Remove the gear from the vehicle.
The installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the mounting bolts to 150 ft. lbs. (203 Nm). Refill the power steering pump.
