Customer Question

I have a 1989 Chrysler LeBaron Turbo 2.5. When it is in drive the oil gauge goes to low and the temp gauge goes high. It doesn’t over heat. when I put it in to neutral or park the gauges go back to normal.

It sounds as if the engine is getting tired but some movement is normal between park and drive because of idle speed.If you have no other symptoms I would continue to use the car as is.If something would change drastically I would give it the attention needed.Chrysler engines from that era were noted for those symptoms and ran forever that way.

Reply to Davo/diablo666's Post: It ran without these symptoms for a very long time this is something very new. We have replaced the turbo, power steering lines and a new thermostat recently. It just seems odd that this would suddenly start happening. I was thinking a wire or sensor has or is going bad.

Make sure all of the engine and body grounds are clean and tight.If it is an all of a sudden issue and the grounds are ok I would suspect the instrument panel cluster to be at fault.

 Does the temp gauge go instantly (or faster than the engine temp coud possibly change) to high when you put it in drive?
