Hi Lynn and welcome to the site, I’m Louie. Sorry you had to wait awhile but I’ll do my best to help.

Initially, a little more info please:

  • • is this a fresh / new install;
  • • or has it been in use for some time and this issue of "...won't turn on or reset..." just recent;
  • • are you then considering a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair approach;
  • • if yes, do you have access to and familiar with a multi-meter?
Customer: replied 29 days ago.
Not a fresh install. Bought the car with this stereo from someone.It's been in use for sometime.I would like to do it myself as I am low income.I do not have multi-meter but I could borrow one from my neighbor.

Appreciate the post back Lynn and great on the DIY!

Proposed preliminary checks (if have not been done):

  • check the voltages at the yellow and red wires at the back of the DNX6990HD;
  • ensure that the black wire is tied to the vehicles metal body, frame, bracket or support and not only to the harness ground line;
  • check the 15A fuse at the back of the Kenwood.

The above are the only easy doable checks as all others would be internal to the Kenwood DNX6990HD.

Ok. I will remove the system again at some point today and do as you said. How long do we get to chat for? Until my problem is resolved?
Expert:  Louie replied 29 days ago.

Yes, until the problem has been resolved.

Also, try a test of the Kenwood by joining together the red & yellow and connect to the battery's + terminal while the black to the - terminal. The objective is to check if it would power on with direct connections.
