Hi my name is***** no one has Helped you yet, I will try.
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
ok - don't need the phone if you have read the msg above.
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
Are you talking about the mini usb cable for the Garmin
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
If thats the cable you need, It plug into cigarette lighter outlet and into Garmin, i have one in stock and can send it to you, !5.00 plus 4.00 shipping.
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
no - the garmin book says that to hook up a backup camera on a 7200 - I need a DR cable (dead reckoning) - it look proprietary and I can't find one. it appears that it needs to connect to dc power
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
Or does your Garmin have the round port?
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
Thats an option on that unit, not needed to use.
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
the unit is powered with a round port and I have the wire -- it also has a video/ audio port which I also have. but trying to hook up a back up camera - nothing works --- book says a dr cable is needed
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I'm looking for a workaround
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
the video port only has video and audio inputs no power
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
thats right but the camera has power wires and they are hooked to 12 pos andd neg
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
for camera hook up you need it i have one also for 9.95 shipped And yes Camera powers up separately but has nothing to do with powering up garmin
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
are you using a Garmin camera or other?
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
are you talking about the din cable thats round on both ends and has several pins inside
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
no - I don't think you understand--- The camera has power ---- the garmin has power and works --- I have the connecting wires from tthe camera (RCA connector) to the garmin ( mini pin audio/video ) but apparantly something else is required
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
not a garmin camera
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
no i don't think so, it sounds like you have it all hooked up, have you gone through settings on Garmin?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
yup - tried setting for both backup camera and the audo/dvr setting but it doesn't recognize a camera or any other input so I pressume that the dr cable mentioned in the manual is needed to trip some switch
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
I wish i could have just called you, but it's against rules we have to go through this to call so they can get more money.
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
The DR cable im seeing has no wires to hook up, looks like it goes from din to din connectors, does your garmin have a round socket for a din plug?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
no - well I guess we're really not getting anywhere. I have a pretty good understanding of this - I just wanted to know about the dr cable and its function - doesn't seem like it has any purpose - the plug I see in the manual has an elongated 2 pin plug with only one wire dealing with the camera no din plugs
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
the second wire deals with the dead recokoning function
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
Ok maybe a reverse signal to activate camera
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
thanks for trying - guess I'll fiddle til it works or I break it ;-)
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
i have looked at every cable for the garmin 7200 and it's not showing me any other cable, sorry i could not help more.
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
does your garmin have any more available ports on it? if so how many pins in it
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
its ok - Just for future reference the DR cable is discussed on page 34 35 of the manual
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
i found the dr cable but it has no wires to hook up it has din on both sides,
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
I have hooked up many cameras to the garmins and never used a DR cable and never had an issue
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
must be a newer style - the ones I have seen are 1 double plug and 2 wires one for camera - dc hookup and the other is
DR function. Hold on while I go to garmin site again
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
Thats possible the ones i have hooked up weren't very old
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
look on page 53 of the manual - it shows the wire
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
You would think if they made a change they would change model #
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
from the pic, I can't tell where it would plug in anyhow. the only open port i see is a mini usb - it mentions a weather port on the 7500 but mine (7200) doesn't have one
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
That what i thought, it wasn't showing me were something could plug in
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
It should have woorked
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I agree but it doesn't and yet it says I need the plug with limiter somewhere - got me stumped --- again thanks for trying
Expert:  Thomas Tullo replied 11 months ago.
I wish i could help more. If you need help with anything look me up Tom2legit
