Have an 86 Mitsubishi Montero 4spd. While attaching trailer lighting harness vehicle rear lights no longer function even when detached from trailer, now. all fuses have been replaced and bulbs checked and still no rear tail light action...no signals, no brake lights.

If the fuses are not the problem, if the bulbs are not the problem, then what's left?

- the sockets (though I doubt that.)

- the switches

- the ground connections or other connections, anywhere in the circuit.

Do you have a voltmeter? it can be very useful in a case like this, to verify whether voltage is, or is not, reaching any given point (whether its not reaching a point is owing to connections, wiring, switches, etc.

What I don't understand is how the turn signal and brake lights were working prior to my connecting trailer but now do not work, at all. Headlights and rear lights functional when turning on headlight switch. (?)What could have caused this?

Is the trailer hookup still hooked up?

If so, overloads & blown fuses, wires crossed and shorting things out, etc., could all be causes.
