I have an avic-n4 gps device. I recently noticed that settings were not being saved, such as radio presets and sound. Is there anything an end user can do to fix this issue?
Optional Information: Type of Electronic: Navigation or GPS Already Tried: I have replaced the n4 hide away unit, but with no resolution.
Hi there and welcome to Just Answer. I'm Steve. Thanks for asking your question. I'm sorry to hear about your issue.
I see that this question has been sitting for a while. Do you still need help?
If so, about how old is this AVIC?
Yes, I do thanks. The unit was purchased new in 2008. Unfortunately, I do not know if it ever worked as I had exclusively used the unit with an iPod and only recently tried using the radio.
The AVIC uses power from the car battery to store presets etc even when the car is turned off. The first thing to check would be that the yellow memory wire is connected to a permanent 12V source.
Is that something you can do?
Let me know.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. I looked under the hood, and could not find a yellow memory wire. I think I may need to have it taken to an electronics installer to have checked out. I am not very comfortable removing the head unit and trying to locate cables. Thank you for your assistance!
The yellow wire would be behind the head unit, not under the hood.
I'll be here if you need further help.
I'm afraid I would need to take the car and unit to a professional then. As I am not comfortable with removing the head unit.
Ok, good luck.
