I have a Pioneer AVIC-X9310BT unit in a new Lotus and I cant

I have a Pioneer AVIC-X9310BT unit in a new Lotus and I can't get it to recognize my Ipod. There is an appropriate connector cabe and I have selected Ipod for AVI. However, there does not appear to be any signal/power coming through the cable, as the Ipod (Iphone 4) does not register that a cable has been attached.
