i have a jvc kd-r300 and when I attempt to wire it to my 2002 pontiac boneville my dash lights either stay on permanently or not at all. what gives

Thanks for stopping by.These harnesses are made for a multitude of vehicles, and it is up to the Installer to determine which should be used.Assuming the original stereo was not Bose - you won't use the Illumination or Dimmer wire in this installation. It is a (-) trigger, and the radio is sending out a (+).Disconnect both orange wires (if wired up)... safely terminate them, then re-try.If you have additional - Just Ask.Thanks!
How do I find which line will activate my interior dash and license plate light?
That is not a function of the radio.The Illumination wire (when used) dims the display when the headlights are turned on.The Dimmer wire (when used) dims the display when the dashlight potentiometer is adjusted so the brightnesses match the radio.If your dashlights and plate light are out - there is likely a bad fuse in your fusebox.bluextc8941033.0369365741

*This D.BU wire is located in a 40-pin plug located to the right of the steering column. The front door tweeters are wired in parallel with front door woofers.
