Hello & Welcome,

Can you tell me the Model number of BOTH units?

If they are both nuvi units, you may be able to connect them to a computer and copy all of your saved "favorites" between units.

This is how that can be done

----------------

In order to back up your Favorites:

  1. Using a USB data cable, plug the device into a computer
  2. Double-click the My Computer icon (Mac users can skip this step)
  3. Right Click the nuvi drive and select explore (Mac users can find this on their desktop)
  4. Double-click the Garmin folder1
  5. Double-click the GPX folder
  6. Copy the current.gpx file
  7. Paste this file to another location on your computer
  8. Rename the file current1.gpx

Once you save a copy of the GPX file on your computer, you have successfully backed up the waypoints within your device.

To restore these Favorites on your device:

  6. Copy the current1.gpx file saved to your computer
  7. Paste this file to the GPX folder (You will need to have both the current.gpx and current1.gpx file in this location)
  8. Unplug the device from the computer

At this time the favorites you backed up should be restored on your device.

1. If you own a nuvi 1xxx series device you will not need to open the Garmin folder.

Note: To open a .gpx file on your computer, you must have MapSource mapping software installed.

----------------

Please let me know what happens.

Thanks, XXXXX

It didn't work. The old garmin is a StreetPilot c330 and the new one is nuvi 255w.

As I said, the old unit is a StreetPilot c330 and the new one is a nuvi 255w. I have been told by vendors ir is impossible. TYrue?

Hi again,

Oh - you didn't mention in your original question that you were trying to go from a streetpilot to a Nuvi. I believe the formats for the addresses are a bit different between those models.

I can do some checking, but I believe that a special "program" (script) would have to be written to convert from one format to the other. I believe the StreetPilot used the MapSource program to save & reload "favorites", and the Nuvi now uses the POI-Loader program.

Sorry about that, but it would probably take a programmer (or hacker) a few days to come up with such a program to do the conversion.

Take Care, Greg A.
