Debra Thal :

You also report any taxes paid world-wide as you will get a foreign tax credit for all taxes you've paid so that you will not face double taxation.

Customer :

are you saying my income is 120000 and thats what I pay taxes on taking in the equation of the foreign tax credit.

Customer :

I am saying my income should only be 100000 claim the 20000 foriegn tax credit and pay alot less tax

Customer :

which is correct

Customer :

I have been paying the canadian goverment aprox $18000 a year in taxes due to saying my income is 120000 and also paying higher child suport

Customer :

Do I add the $20000 foreign taxes Which my company pays the Equatorial Guinea goverment which I never see on my YTD? increassing the amount I pay into the canadian Goverment.

Debra Thal :

Your income is your total income from all sources. You add the income up from all sources from Equatorial Guinea and Canada etc.

But you pay less tax than you otherwise would because you get a foreign tax credit (which comes off the amount of tax payable to the CRA).

Debra Thal :

But if the $20,000 is considered to be income because it is being paid on your behalf then it counts as income.

Debra Thal :

If there is a creative way to treat the $20,000 based on what you are being told then you should see an accountant, face to face, for some advice as to how best to do this based on your individual situation.

Customer :

ok

Is it easy for the Canadian goverment to track my finicials as I transfered companies and now rotate out of in Nigeria. This year I never declared any foreign income, I get paid into a canadian Bank/Have a canadian bank acount

Customer :

Passport

Customer :

how easy it for them if i give them no information

Customer :

Thanks for your advice in advance

Debra Thal :

The Canadian Government will not necessarily take steps to discover tax evasion but they get information from various sources such as banks, possibly paypal etc.

Debra Thal :

They were cracking down on eBay sellers who thought they could not get caught.

Debra Thal :

But I would doubt they would get information from Nigeria.

Debra Thal :

I don't know for sure though.

Customer :
