My late mother was a resident of Hong Kong. She was not a Canadian national. She passed away leaving a current account in a bank in Vancouver with a balance of CA$19,000 in the account. As the executor of her will, I will need to close it and distribute the money to the beneficiaries stated in her will. Do I need a Canadian lawyer to assist my Hong Kong lawyer to do this?
Your HK lawyer cannot do this for you.
You can self-represent or retain a lawyer in BC.
Only a lawyer licenced in BC can act for you in BC.
You can contact the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and use their Lawyer Referral Service. You will be given the name of a lawyer and can consult with the lawyer and the first half hour will be $25.The number is:XXX-XXX-XXXX or 1.XXX-XXX-XXXX.
