Customer Question

I live in a non divided condo building. My lease was with the owners of the building and the owners just sold my unit and several others in the building. Firstly the new buyer had sent a latter to come in and look at the smoke detectors when this was untrue he was entering to look at the space. Since then he has sent me an eviction notice to subdivide my unit which is approx 1400 sq ft and make two 700 sq ft units which he will lose space as well so both new units will be about 650 sq. I have a very low rent and two indoor garage spaces so naturally he would want me out. I want to stay here forever! It doesn't make sense that he would turn this gorgeous unit into two tiny units. I met with the owner and he offered me to double my rent to stay, buy it for a ridiculous price or give me 17,000$ to get out now. Do I have a chance to fight him and win? I am told that perhaps I have a legacy lease...what does that mean? My unit was one that the previous owner never was able to pay off to turn the building condo. HELP!
