My daughter is 24 years old. Her father never paid child support

My daughter is 24 years old. Her father never paid child support while she was growing up and she is now planning on going to school. Does he have any legal obligation to help support her in this initiative or do I have the ability to ask for child support retroactively? I never pursued child support when she was growing up.
