Resolved Question:

Assume a level of a=0.05 and use the given information for the following?
#1 Original claim: Women have heights with a standard deviation equal to 5.00cm. The hypothesis test results in a P-Value of 0.0055.

#2 Identify the indicated values or interpret the given display. Use the normal distribution as an approximation to the binomial distribution Answer a 0.05 significance level and answer the following? In a Galllup poll of 1003 randomly selected subjects, 373 said that they have a a gun in their home. The accompanying Minitab display shows results from a test of the claim that 35% of homes have guns in them:

"Test of p=0.35 vs p not 0.35
Variable X N Sample p 95 % CI Z value p-value
Guns(NNN) NNN-NNNN0.371884 (0.341974, 0.401795) 1.45 0.146

#3 Listed below are the ages (years) of randomly selected race car drivers (based in data reported in USA TODAY). Use a 0.05 significance level to test the claim that the mean age of all race car drivers is greater than 30 years.
32, 32, 33, 33, 41, 29, 38, 32, 33, 23, 27, 45, 52, 29, 25

#4In an analysis investigating the usefulness of pennies, the cents portions of 100 randomly selected credit cards charges from the author are recorded and they have a mean of 47.6 cents and standard deviation of 33.5 cents. If the amounts from 0 cents to 99 cents are all equally likely the mean is expected to be 49.5 cents and the population standard deviation is expected to be 28.866 cents. Use a 0.01 significance level to test the claim that the sample is from a population with a standard deviation equal to 28.866 cents. If the amount from 0 cents to 99 cents are all equally likely, is the requirement of a normal distribution satisfied? If not how does that affect the conclusion?

Hi,

You're welcome.

While I'm working on the others, could you check the last problem? The last time I saw this problem the standard deviation was 35.5 instead of 33.5. For all I know, the previous version could have had a typo in it, or this is a slightly different version, but I thought it would be good to check.

Thanks,

Ryan
