Customer Question

I have a 88 cadillac fleetwood brougham D'elegance. I got the transmission replaced. Shortly after I heard this clucking noise. Figuring it what in the engine trying to track down this noise I replaced the lifters, crank shaft, oil pump and flywheel. The noise is still there. The car drives fine it just makes this ugly clucking noise. The noise gets worse as the engine heats up. But I've driven it on the interstate with no problem. What could it be?

Could this be a bad torque converter?
Expert:  roybelding replied 10 months ago.

good morning my name is ***** ***** I will assist

was the trans new or used???

did you verify that the trans mount was not broken?? common for clanking.

the torque converter is also an area than can produce noise as well. you can tell by unbolting the converter and pushing it back into the trans and run the engine and see if the noise is still there.

have you checked the u joints???

are you there??

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
It's a rear wheel drive. The transmission was used. The noise is more toward the front of the engine. Leading me to believe its not the u joint but I haven't checked them
