Also, the lighted display stays on the digital panel(with time, station info, etc.)....only the sound goes off...with a cracking noise in the background when I turn volume button. As I said, CD plasyer does not play when this happends. Rudy

.sorry for the delay.............Greetings...... “Hi, I’m Don (aka MOLurch) and I look forward to helping you!”.Prior to replacing anything, you need to have the Radio, BCM & Communication Module Tested & Updated (if needed) for this issue. The Radio is controlled by the BCM (body control module) & the Communication Module. There are Factory Updates that can fix many issues, including the one you describe, but only a GM Dealer can do this.apprx 1 hour laborThere may be a few TECH Bulletins that could get you a few FREE Updates.Otherwise, this sounds to be a BCM issueThe CD will NOT work if the Radio is not responding.IF you need more information, please ask "prior" to Rating..Please do the right thing and leave a rating, using the rating system, so I may be credited for this Q&A..NOTE: Do NOT Rate on how much TIME you waited, because I am not on 24 / 7 and I answer as soon as I see the question. The question will still remain open for follow up questions if needed..If for any reason, you can't rate my answer OKAY, GOOD, or EXCELLENT today. Please reply and let me know why, so I can help more/better..Rating is very Important to our Service.......
