Cadillac CTS: My 2007 Cadillac CTS had it's engine light go

Customer Question

My 2007 Cadillac CTS had it's engine light go on yesterday. I took it to the dealer, they
said it needs new timing chains for $5,000.
I left the dealer and went to an oil change place who checked my oil. As soon as they did this, the engine light went off.
I went back to the dealer, (only 34,000 miles on car). They still want $5,000 for timing chains- said don't drive the car.
I don't know what to do... Help- Please!!

Hi there,We have the same engine in our cars in Australia.Very common problem.Your engine light is probably a code for stretched chains. They say don't drive, because if a chain breaks it will cost way more, about double.Sometimes cheaper to fit a new engine.Gary
