Yea; my service engine soon light came on; and I smelled a

Customer: hi, yea; my service engine soon light came on; and I smelled a funny smell rubber or something; and it was chugging a little. then it stopped; and the light went out. so I proceeded to the store a few blocks away. then when I got out of the store; it started good, and I never overheated; but half way home the service engine soon light came on again; and stayed on till I got home; then I smelled that smell again. it was chugged a little, at a light; and I wasn't sure if it was the engine or transmission. but; I did make it home; and it never overheated; and I felt under the engine; and the overflow tank was hot; but not smoking. there is still a little liquid at the bottom of the tank

Customer: well; a few months ago; we fixed a rear engine seal leak; which cost $2100. to fix; and it finally stopped leaking oil. they supposedly did a oil change and transmission oil change and put in synthetic oil then the steering wheel pump went bad; and we had a guy from craigslist come over and he put in a long tube that I believe runs from the engine coolant and engine or something. but; ever since that the check coolant level has been on.

also; I noticed about a month ago; that it seems to shift a little hard; especially In 1st 2nd gears; but it takes off real good if I hit the gas good. so; I looked up a stuff online before; and I was wondering if it could be where the cv joint goes into the left side of the tranny; because of the crazy guy that worked on that that one time? or should I check the tranny fluid and filter? could that be smelling funny; and make the coolant hot?
it does have less in there then there was; there's only a little o the bottome

i also had all the brakes and tires done on the car a couple weeks ago; and they did another oil change; and i told them to do synthetic oil again; i hope they put the same synthetic; at tire kingdom

also; when we were at Disney world; and driving the car from the hotel to Disney everyday; once it felt really hot; under the car on the pasengers side
I'm just wondering if something is clogged.
but i should get the transmission fluid and filter checked i guess; and i'll put more coolant in it.

I was just reading some forums; and i guess it's possible it could be the catalytic converter? cause of the coolant and black tube going from the coolant was hot too.; but wasn't smoking much. but the engine didn't overheat

oh; i remembered something else. when we were at Disney world; and we noticed the passenger or middle underside of engine was hot; that just a day before that we went to my cousins house; and her road was soooo bumpy; and i was going to fast at first; and scraped the bottom of the car. I was afraid i might of damaged something.
maybe something down there is damaged from that; and made the coolant get too hot; and the service engine soon light come on?

It is possible the issue here is with the catalytic converter itself.If it is restricting internally or broken up internally it may be restricting intermittently with the broken pieces bouncing around plugging off the flow and cause the smell and the chugging feel here.If you have not had this inspected to see if it is the cause here this needs done.If found to be at fault it will need replaced.

The other issue is a cylinder misfire with one or more cylinders misfiring causing this fault.This can be due to a faulty ignition coil or spark plug or even a fuel injector acting up.This would have to be checked into further to locate and repair the fault here.Both engine misfire components and the catalytic converter need checked into to see if the fault can be pinpointed.
