On a 1979 Cad Seville 5.7 engine,what sensor would cause the ECU to turn off current to the distributer???

None. All you need is 12 volts to the BATT on the distributor cap in order for the distributor to throw a spark.

Why are you or how do you know there is no current to the distributor an why are you checking for current anyhow?
