Customer Question

Hey there. 99 Deville Base Sedan. Central portion of instrument cluster began working intermittently a few months back and now will not light up at all, even through peripheral gauges such as mileage work fine, and at start-uo all idiot lights work. Service engine and traction control sometimes come on as well, and stay on. Seems like a poor connection but which one? Could it be the ground at starter motor?

This would not be a power or ground issue since the remainder of the cluster works. There is a small chance there is a poor connector connection at the back of the cluster. This issues normally ends up being the cluster faulty and needing to be replaced. You want a excellent 5 star answer & I would like to be rated the same for providing it. Consider I don't know your skill level & I can't see, smell, hear, or touch the vehicle. It may take a few back and forth replies. Try your best to respond with good detail so I can do the same. I normally log in at 3pm and work late. A rating is required. Your rating me, what I type. I am not an employee of this website, nor have control over the fees or the time it took to get a response. If you rate negative or not at all you still paid, but I get nothing. I want you pleased with me and my efforts, so let me know if your experience here has come up short. Thanks Chris

Thanks. I sell used car parts on line, so can easily get a used cluster at Crazy Ray's for maybe $35 and test that hypothesis. Have taken them out of other cars but not a Cadillac. Any special instructions for taking this one out? Disconnect battery to avoid airbag problem I suppose. Any other tricks?
