Hello, my name is***** you for the question. Most of the time if it only occurs in one direction it is either due to a mechanical failure in the suspension such as a ball joint or strut mount, or it is a failure in the spool valve in the rack and pinion. I would get the vehicle in the air and disconnect both tie rod ends. Then move the suspension on both sides one at a time by hand feeling for binding. If not then before replacing the rack I would flush out the fluid as there may be debris in the spool valve causing this. Please let me know if you need more help with this.
