Country: United StatesMake: CadillacModel: CTS VYear: 2004 Already Tried: Went to dealership maybe a year ago when this started they did the diagnostic but found nothing. One mechanic said try the second pair of keys could be a battery or sensor in the key. Two new batteries. AAA said my battery was dead last week.Mechanis said they check alternator and it was fine. Some said battery cables loose but had them toghtened.
I think the neutral safety switch on the transmission needs adjusted. To be sure that is it, try holding the key on start while moving the shifter all the way from park to low and back and forth. If at any spot the starter engages except neutral or park then the switch needs adjusted.

Which engine is in that?
Thanks for the info. No one has mentioned the a neutral safety switch on the transmission that may need adjusting - not even the dealership. Haven't checked the suggestion about holding the key on start while moving the shifter. Will try that tomorrow.
By the above, do you mean the next time it won't start, or just the next time we start the car?
Thanks for you help and we will let you know if it works.
Either one, just remember if you are out and it don't start to try that.
