Customer Question

The pull strap on the 3/4 seat behind the driver's seat in my escalade broke. I need to raise the bottom to lay the back down to haul something, but I can't get the latch loose. How do I disengage the latch without the pull strap?

Hello, I'm Cam. At anytime during our discussion you need more information or clarification, please reply.

HAve you looked under the back yet? The strap simply pulls on a metal bar to release the seat so it can be flipped up. SO my question to start off with is this, can you check the other side and see where the strap attaches to?

Customer replied320 days and 21 hours ago.

There is a metal piece that runs the entire length of the underside of the seat. I tried to remove it, but I can't get anything in there to turn the bolts.

I will go look up under the seat and see if I can see it. It will take me a few minutes. Do I just pull forward on that?

Pull the end of the cable if you find it, yes.

Customer replied320 days and 21 hours ago.

There is a page that keeps loading wanting me to join the GM ask an expert. It's really annoying and causing a delay in the response. They need to get rid of it. Once at the end is sufficient. I will go do that and get back to you in a few minutes.

ok

Customer replied320 days and 21 hours ago.

It's not budging. I tried pulling straight out toward the front of the truck and tried pulling up between the seatbelts, Nothing

Is the center shaft of the cable still there, or is there just the outer casing?

Customer replied320 days and 20 hours ago.

Wire center is there with white cap on end attached to the latch. I broke the cable loose from the front of the seat so I could get more pull on it but that didn't work either.

are you able to follow the cable down where it attaches in the latch near the seat belt buckles? If so can you move the part in there to release it?

Customer replied320 days and 20 hours ago.

Which way do I move it. I tried pulling up on the latch but it didn't move. Can I use a screwdriver and pry up? I'm not sure which way I'm suppose to move this thing. I don't see a place where the latch actually attaches because that flat piece of metal is in the way.

Can you see where the cable attaches dummy end? According to the picture it shows of bolt or a clip of some sort of hold the cable on. If you can see that, push forward with screwdriver on that.

Customer replied320 days and 20 hours ago.

ok

Any luck?

Customer replied320 days and 19 hours ago.

I broke the piece the cable attached to. Nothing else even moved.

You will need to replace that latch assembly, which is surely the reason the cable broke to start with.
I suggest getting used parts from an auto wrecker, they will be much cheaper.

Customer replied320 days and 19 hours ago.

I'll have to get it out before I can replace it. I will have to take it somewhere. My daughter is going off to college which I why I needed the seat down. I have to move her. Thanks for your help. My husband tried once before but it's been almost 4 years since it broke, so I guess it all froze up.

Sorry it is not better news, but this is common.
I hope the move and the college goes safely.
