96 deville: the transmission seems to be shifting perfectly

Resolved Question:

I have a 96 deville with a pc0717 code and a service transmission message. However, the transmission seems to be shifting perfectly. Do you think I should just ignore. Car is nice and only has 65k miles.

Hello and good evening. That code is for a problem with the signal from the input speed sensor for the transmission. This is one of those situations. The sensor is a $30 sensor but requires 11.8 hours to install. The transmission must be removed to install the sensor. It is located behind the side cover, but the transmission needs to be removed to remove that cover. As far as replacing it, way out the cost vs your mileage. If the code is in memory, it could stop you from passing inspection. Stay in tune to the way the transmission behaves as to the importance of fixing it sooner. It is cheaper to fix this issue than replace the transmission if anything deteriorates from not fixing it. You know the info, get some prices on repair from some reputable transmission shops. They might be able to replace it in a more timely fashion, than a normal repair facility.
