My car was stolen in June 1996 and found in the same month. I had to have a new ignition switch installed on it. Now the cadillac technician is telling me that that I need a new ignition switch. What is the life span of an ignition switch?
Hello and welcome to Just answer.com, Super mechanic here. About your vehicle.
I would like to say that the life span of an ignition switch is at least 5 years, however, that is not always the case. That would also depend on the brand and quality of the new part.
What kind of vehicle is it and what type of problems are you having now with it?
I am not having any problems with it now. I took it to the shop for another reason and the tech says that I need a new ignition switch. This switch was put on at the cadillac dealership where I bought the car from. It is a 1996 Cadillac Seville SLS. The new switch was put on in June 2006.
It may be that the tech at the shop had some trouble turning the key and that is why they say it needs a new ignition lock cylinder. However, if you are not having any problems with it at this time, it will be hard to say for sure.
